17 Tips to a Successful Regatta

1. Make sailing instructions simple.
2. Make the skippers meeting as informative as possible.
3. Set the start & finish lines outside the racecourse.
4. Make the starting line square to the wind & long enough to fit all the boats on the line
at one time. (but not too long)
5. Start the fastest fleets first.
6. Race & score all the Optimist together.
7. Race & score all Lasers together.
8. Use the 3-minute dinghy start.
9. Use a megaphone to hail boats that are over early.
10. Don’t make the courses too short. (the sailors are there to sail)
11. Run 5 races with no throw outs.
12. Serve lunch after the races.
13. Have a runner log race scores into the computer during the regatta.
14. Handle protests effectively & quickly.
15. Tally up the race scores ASAP after the last race.
16. Post the race results before the awards ceremony.
And last but not least;
17. Get the regatta results to me, ASAP after the regatta.
The above are just tips, hopefully they’ll be helpful.
